Department of Analytical Chemistry

Department of Analytical Chemistry was founded in 1933. The department was headed by prof. Yu.M. Polezhaev from 1977 to 2000, and by prof. A.I. Matern from 2000 to the present.

The department is training undergraduates for the programs "Chemical technology of electronics materials, sensory analytics and inorganic substances" (trajectory "Electrochemical methods and sensors for monitoring the environment and biological objects") and "Medical and pharmaceutical chemistry" (trajectory "Instrumental methods of research in the pharmaceutical industry"). In 2015, the department launched the bachelor's degree “Instrumental Methods for Analysis of Natural and Technical Objects” within the framework of the “Chemical Technology” direction.

Main research areas:

•  Development of sensors, instruments and an automatic electrochemical complex for online eco-monitoring of heavy metals;
•  Studies of the antioxidant and anti-radical activity of solutions;
• Enzymatic methods for the determination of diagnostically relevant parameters;
•  Development of methods for electrochemical immunoassay;
•  Nanoparticle toxicity research;
•  Study of the mechanisms for electrochemical transformations of organic compounds and pharmaceuticals;
• Determination of the main substance and impurities in pharmaceuticals.
