The department of technology for organic synthesis was created in 1947. The department was headed by: Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR Z.V. Pushkareva (1947–1982), Professor V.I. Shishkin (1982-1988), Professor V.S. Mokrushin (1988–2008), Professor V.A. Bakulev (2008 to the present).
The Department of TOC trains bachelors in 3 profiles: "Chemical Technology of Organic Substances", "Biotechnology" and "Food Biotechnology." 4 Master programs are implemented: Chemical technology of organic materials and biologically active substances (trajectory “Chemical technology of fine organic synthesis, Chemical technology of biologically active substances”), Chemical technology of natural energy carriers, petrochemical products and polymers (trajectory “Chemical technology of main organic and petrochemical synthesis, Chemical technology and polymer processing”), Molecular biotechnology and bioengineering (the trajectory of Medical Biotechnology), Food Biotechnology (in Russian and English).
Among the graduates and employees of the department, 374 people defended their candidate dissertations, 40 - doctoral, 20 graduates became laureates of the State Prize, 15 - heads of departments of various universities.
